The 4 weeks that matter

Why aerial foliage is different

Driving the Adirondack foliage routes is beautiful. Hiking the High Peaks in October is unforgettable. But neither shows you what a helicopter shows you — the entire 6-million-acre canopy, ridge by ridge, lake by lake, color by color, in a single hour.

The High Peaks Grand

Whiteface, Marcy ridgeline, the Lake Placid corridor — the iconic Adirondack peaks at peak color. The most-photographed flight in the Northeast.

Lake George Islands

180+ islands wreathed in red and gold maples, reflected in the lake. From altitude, the islands look painted.

Tongue Mountain & The Narrows

The ridge that splits Lake George — sugar maples and beech in every shade from green to deep red along its spine.

Champlain Valley

Crossing east, the valley between Lake George and Lake Champlain holds some of the densest hardwood color in the Northeast.

Foliage tour pricing

Foliage 2026 calendar

Adirondack foliage is unpredictable from year to year — the dates below are based on 17-year operational averages. We watch the canopy weekly and update customers if a forecast shifts.

Color stages (typical year):

  • Sept 5–20: Early color — yellows and golds emerging in the higher elevations
  • Sept 21 – Oct 17: PEAK — full canopy color across all elevations; reds, oranges, golds together
  • Oct 18–31: Late color — peak fading; oaks holding; bare aspens at altitude

Flight conditions during foliage season are variable — early morning is often calm and clear, late afternoon often hazy. We'll text you the morning of your flight if conditions warrant rebooking.

The booking trap

Most people book foliage flights in late September after they've already arrived in the Adirondacks. By then, all peak-window weekends are gone. The pattern that works:

  • Book in August for peak-week weekends
  • Book in September for peak-week weekdays
  • Book any time for pre-peak / post-peak weekends
